Rose for Neda

Rose for Neda

All day and night, music,
a quiet, bright
reedsong. If it
fades, we fade.
Rumi /Jelaluddin Balkhi

I cannot be alone, dear readers, in having been deeply moved by what is happening at the moment in Iran. I was particularly touched by the unfortunate death of the beautiful young girl, Neda. This post is very simply dedicated to her from a multi-cultural perspective, as the world mourns her loss.

May the blessed Mother hold you

As For everything there is a season,
And a time for every matter under heaven:
A time to be born, and a time to die;
A time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;
A time to kill, and a time to heal;
A time to break down, and a time to build up;
A time to weep, and a time to laugh;
A time to mourn, and a time to dance;
A time to throw away stones, and a time to gather stones together;
A time to embrace, And a time to refrain from embracing;
A time to seek, and a time to lose;
A time to keep, and a time to throw away;
A time to tear, and a time to sew;
A time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
A time to love, and a time to hate,
A time for war, and a time for peace.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

May you and all who have loved you find peace

Teach this triple truth to all: A generous heart, kind speech, and a life of service and compassion are the things which renew humanity.

Thank you for opening your hearts to the change in Iran and for doing whatever you might do to ease their path.

Love and global blessings,
Kathryn xoxo

  4. Thank you my dear darling daughter. This post is all the more poignant knowing what it is to be blessed with a beautiful daughter. All mothers and fathers everywhere hold their daughters a little more closely this Sunday. Love you so much. Mom xoxo

  5. It’s amazing the depth of feeling our hearts can experience from those known, and those unknown. God bless the nations of this world. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

  6. Good morning, Red Clover. So true. Is it possible we recognize ourselves in the unknown, that essence we all share? Freedom loving people are united at the moment, no doubt. And those beyond, I am certain. Thanks for your loving comments. Kathryn xoxo

  7. Good Morning Kathryn,
    Thank you for this beautiful tribute to Neda,

    As Neda lay dying in the street she was exhorted by those around her “Do not be afraid”

    I thought of this passage:
    “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” – Gospel of John 14:27

    Your images and passages affirm the universal truths found in Neda, “the voice” or “divine calling”
    Thank you for showing that Neda is everyone’s daughter; she is all of us.

  8. Dear Philip, It is I who is now weeping, reading your very beautiful comment. And I am realizing that this particular post will serve as a place for people to leave their thoughts, that this post is far from over, that it is being written by all of us as a memorial to Neda, which has been “forbidden” in all the mosques in Iran.
    Thank you, dear friend, for lighting this candle. Kathryn xoxo

  9. Salam Kathy,
    Thank you so much for this beautiful, heartfelt post. The photos would be enough, but then your carefully chosen words send the love into an even deeper dimension.

    I am American by birth, but somehow, 30 years ago (during the 1979 revolution) I fell in love with the Iranian culture and took to learning the music, the history, the cuisine, the poetry, and bits of the language. So I have been standing on the sidelines with admiration and fervent hope.

    When I happened upon your post, I just dissolved into tears that I’ve not been able to shed until now.

    I came to you via Artist’s Garden I think.

    Khali merci (thank you so much)

  10. Good evening, Crayons. This is a very endearing and affirming comment which I appreciate from the bottom of my heart. How wonderful that you feel a special kinship with Iran. This must be particularly hard for you to witness, then. But it is searing the hearts of people worldwide, obviously. This is such an amazing time. Tend your heart, dear. Kathryn xoxo

  11. It is so disturbing what is happening in Iran. Your words and images are a beautiful tribute to Neda. Thank you.

  12. Welcome, Sarah. Thank you so much for the visit and for lighting another candle on Iran and Neda’s behalf. Kathryn xoxo

  13. Oh Kathryn, It is really horrific what is happening in Iran, the people of Iran is in pain, suffering because of the dictatorship. It is dreadful.

    Lovely pictures for Neda, bless her soul.

    Greetings from Tyra in THE GREENHOUSE

  14. Good morning, dear Tyra. It makes me feel better to know we are united, kindred spirits in Europe and America, in our caring for the people of Iran. Thank you, lovely soul. Kathryn xoxo

  15. This is a beautiful and moving post. I appreciate all the photos and cultures. Grief knows no borders, nor comfort. A single death like Neda’s wakes us all up to the horrors of this situation.

  16. Welcome, commonweeder. Thank you so much for your visit and your loving words. So appreciated. Yes, this is a time for solidarity behind a struggling youth, asking for their voices to be heard. I’m listening. So are you. Thank you. Kathryn xoxo

  17. I have been focused on Ecclesiastes 3:11 for a while now part of which reads “He makes all things beautiful in its time.” Your quotation of verses 1 through 8 separately made me realize how closely tied “a time to mourn and a time to dance” are to “He makes all things beautiful in its time.” Thank you.

  18. Hi, Jennifer. I’m so glad this post illuminated further something you were processing. Thank you for letting me know. 🙂 Kathryn xoxo
